The AZVT DEAI Committee was created to affirm AZVT's commitment to diversity and to foster and support equity within the AZVT community. The association's goal is to provide veterinary technicians or veterinary technician students from underrepresented groups with the opportunity to make change and advance knowledge and understanding within our field. The DEAI Committee would also encourage zoological institutions to foster diversity by helping vet tech students overcome the financial challenges of gaining hands-on experience by offering paid veterinary technician internships. The committee is working on ways to help zoos create internships with a DEAI focus. "We welcome anyone to reach out with ideas on how we can achieve our goals and be more inclusive as a community." A DEAI Conference Sponsorship was created to fund the selected individual's in-person attendance at AZVT's Annual Conference. Attending the conference provides the opportunity to gain knowledge in zoological medicine, network with conference attendees, and enjoy the ice breaker and banquet. The DEAI Conference Sponsorship is open to any post-graduate veterinary technician or currently enrolled student of an accredited vet tech program, of underrepresented groups. |
