If you are a veterinary technician student or recent grad, AZVT has an amazing resource list of zoos & aquariums that offer
VETERINARY TECHNICIAN TEACHING PROGRAMS
What are TEACHING PROGRAMS? We use it as an umbrella term covering the more commonly used: externship, internship, or preceptorship.
In general, participants of these individual programs will be performing similar duties as the supervising zoo vet tech. Most facilities require certain medical clearances be met. A few examples may include: a negative TB test within the last 6 months, current tetanus vaccination, and completed rabies vaccination series and/or titer. Please review the individual posting for current requirements.
Most zoos do not provide monetary support or housing for students. But some may offer assistance in locating/suggesting housing options.
