If you are a veterinary technician student, AZVT has an amazing resource list of ZOOS that offer
VETERINARY TECHNICIAN TEACHING PROGRAMS!
What are TEACHING PROGRAMS? We use it as an umbrella term covering the more commonly used: externship, internship, or preceptorship. Please note, the listings found here are for PRE-GRAD veterinary technician students.
[POST-GRAD Internships can be found on the Jobs page under the Resources tab]
In general, participants of these individual programs will be performing similar duties as the supervising zoo vet tech. Most facilities require certain medical clearances be met. A few examples may include: a negative TB test within the last 6 months, current tetanus vaccination, and completed rabies vaccination series and/or titer. Please review the individual posting for current requirements.
Most zoos do not provide monetary support or housing for students. But some may offer assistance in locating/suggesting housing options.
